The Old Look Back …

The old look back –
remember those
who long ago chose
to take a different road,
rebel against a dry, dull code;
they liked the shock that shook
their neighbours when that daring path they took:
flaunting liberty and immorality
they tempted others to their revelry.

And some who stayed felt foolish, weak, dismayed
that maybe they were missing out on life’s great thrill.

But others found that better still
was quickening life
that made the code a joy,
its Author wise an ever-present Helper,
aiding in the daily troubles, strife.

And down the years, those on the other road
seemed rather early aged, and jaded, faded,
the mask of brittle glitter cracking, slipped;

– but just a few saw lasting joy abound,
a strange and real excitement found
by some they’d left behind,
belatedly came back –
jumped track.

The verse you quoted from Ecclesiastes is good and saves many from wrong turns and experiments, but not all hear it, and thank God, he is always ready to welcome the returning prodigal! Rhiannon

I am very well Rhiannon, the medicals all just turned out routine there were no problems, will be getting dentures soon – bit of a nuisance they said to just take it easy for now. It's uncomfortable.

We've just had pap & vleis for lunch, traditional cooked curried beef chunks and stiff mealy porridge with a salty meat sauce. Good solid stuff. Otherwise taking a bit of a break I've been reading some classics again, I like (and scifi) adventure stories most.

And of course many elderly people are content and happy, especially these days can have meaningful content lives with caring family, as for me I don't feel old at all.

When I started at Abc they said I'd been over-doing it with the comments I am taking it easy rather.
