carried on the chest,
blazoned on the back:
is that the message of his heart,
or just the next shirt in the stack?
a headline of his views?
or statement to amuse,
or has he by now forgotten what’s there,
or really doesn’t care? –
after all
whatever the words
maybe he feels it's
just so cool a thing to wear!

Oh, I'm not judging his sincerity, Nolan. I'm just expressing that we see a slogan, and it may be being worn for purpose and with sincerity, or it may be just a T-shirt he's wearing with little thought to the words on it. If we have conversation with the person, or get to know him a bit, or learn more from someone who knows him, then we may get to know if these are his sentiments, his beliefs. I think that is what the IP was getting at. Rhiannon

The ambiguity of messages printed on t-shirts. Perhaps we too readily make assumptions and judge a book by its cover. It's right to keep an open mind but we can't help judging.

Thank you. I think sometimes these days wearers have forgotten what is on it! Anyway, as the IP implied we can't assume that's meant to be a message and a strongly held thought-out viewpoint! Rhiannon
