“Throw Him over the cliff!”

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
Returning to his home town
and reading publicly
the scripture in the synagogue
– Isaiah’s prophecy –
the coming of Messiah,
his reign and saving Day;
“Today these scripture words are
fulfilled”, they heard him say.
His gracious words amazed them.
But then he spoke of how
so often prophets are not
honoured by those they know.
The people then were furious
and drove him out of town
up to the cliff above them
– they aimed to throw him down.
The time of Jesus death was
not yet to be, he went
away right through the people,
and no-one could prevent.
Luke 4:14-30 Isaiah 61:1,2a)
Tune: 76 76

Thank you for this series. I
Thank you for this series. I haven't settled on a church so I just worship on my own, ready my Bible, say my prayers, and read your posts to help with scripture. Steinbeck wrote about timshel, thou mayest - East of Eden. Timshel, I like that. We choose. We may worship God and we may not. Much obliged.

That's the thing. I pray
That's the thing. I pray every day to God, our Father, Jesus our Savior and the Holy Ghost, our Sanctifier will grant me forgiveness. But I can't be forgiven for what I would do again. No church can rescue me.

Repeat offenders
I understand exactly what you are saying TJB it worries me too. Perhaps we should think like children,
gentle jesus meek and mild
look upon a little child
pity my simplicity
suffer me to come to thee
I honestly don't think you should condemn yourself.
Keep well, take it easy! Tom
