Ladies and gentlemen…the bride and groom!
even the doctor
was surprised
flicking through books
and yawning over google
for a diagnosis –
wedding tourette’s
she called it
ice sculpture!
i shouted in response
horse and carriage
honeymoon night –
it just came out right
as she struggled
to find a response
in the end
i was prescribed a course
of heavy cynicism;
three times daily
i tried, i really tried
hand clamped over my mouth
as i bellowed out
here comes the bride
wait for the speeches
the best man’s doing what? With who?!
the medication was modern
created to limit connection
to kill all hope
and feeling
i knew it wouldn’t work

threw away all cynicism
the first time
you and i spoke
now,
it’s worse than ever
something slipping out my mouth
every time we’re together
champagne!
let’s spend the rest of our life together
it’s been two weeks!
deeply afflicted
with wedding tourette’s
i tic in your presence
unable to stop
fairy lights and candles bright
we’re gonna have fun tonight!
i spit out a guest list
whilst buying coffee
plan a first dance
when i’m supposed to be listening
yell out venues
in the dead of sleep
this condition
is chronic now
in the presence
of the one
i want to keep
