Why girls marry

My youngest daughter tells me marriage is not cool
and will most likely disappear in fifty years
based on a legal contract and not trust
it smells of entrapment and prison bars
with lovers cruelly forced to serve their
time
hopeless to say it used to be a sacred vow
"One thing alone makes girls still want to wed"
"And what is that, my love?" I humbly said
"To wear a ravishing white gown, of course
and if I marry it will be for that -
skin-hugging silk from cleavage down to waist
and then a skirt of ten-mile radius
I want to be more lovely than my cake"
Loving this, and her,
I leave my thought unsaid
That she would not be here if we'd not wed.
