As he stood to admire
a bonfire fiercely burning
in a park by the lake,
his imagination ran.
He saw it at first
as a funereal pyre,
with mourners
attracted, moth-like,
by the fire;
then his thoughts
turned to an event
whose consequences
had been dire:
the death of the maid
of Orleans, Joan of Arc,
burned at the stake.
The roaring flames,
redolent of Hell,
extinguished at last
leaving behind
an acrid smell
in their wake.

Very serious Luigi
Very serious Luigi, excellent! Have you seen the movie? It is just brilliant, of the very best. She was made a saint long after her death, she had visions and revelations from God and led the French to victory, as you say, a young maiden.
All the best! Tom
