A Recipe for Life

Into a pot place a modicum of strife
With a splash of dry wit, reflective of life;
Then a sprinkle of caution, just to be sure
That humour and kindness forever endure.
Pour tears of frustration with gentle care
Into a cup of ambition to banish despair;
Then season with grace and gentleness,
And add to the pot with a playful finesse
Now fold in your dreams with tender touch
And stir in your failures with such delight
That the fusion melds into a sight to behold
Rich and suggestive of friendships untold.
Bake in the warmth of life’s radiant glow
Until, when golden, the mixture will grow
To an enduring repast that feeds the soul
And steers our quest for a tranquil whole
When ready, offer freely to all those in need
And garnish with whimsy in order to feed
Accord so flimsy, so frail, that what we serve
Will avail the world of confection and verve
What makes us stronger when concord is dire,
Is not build walls higher, but make tables longer
For a banquet of virtues prepared at our behest
Enjoyed by those seated with unity and zest
