The Grandmothers Wish
by Paul McCann
The taxi came and she stood in the path
as they carried their suitcases to fly away .
She looked at them all and said
“Far off fields are green and I’ll always be here
if you ever want to come back here someday “
They got in the taxi and it made its way out
of the district to get the boat across ,
to London where the plane would take them far away.
She went inside , her heart was at a loss .
Their Granny thought of all her Grandchildren and said ,
“My oh my you’re all growing up so fast
and there’s not a day goes past
when I don’t think of you all
and how the years go by so fast .“
Then in that moment
she said ,
“I love you all so much ”
with a gentle voice so kind and sweet .
She looked out the window
and then she stood at the door
and hoped a car would come down the street .
Then a tear rolled down her face.
She missed seeing her grandchildren
and they lived so far away .
Her hands were shaking
and her back was aching
and all her pains were getting worse everyday .
She thought
“ Isn’t life short
but it’s sad you know
when you’re young at heart
but you look old and grey ,
but who knows ,maybe tomorrow
my grandchildren will come
to see their Granny again ,
Oh what a joy it would be for me
just to hold them
and tell them I’m so glad that you came .

This reminds me of our
This reminds me of our leaving for Australia and leaving granny behind; it was her choice and I finally came back to see her before she died; and the poem also reminds me of The Leaving of Liverpool song - nice one Paul.

What a cherish Treasure.
It's such a tenderly affectionate story. We should all honor our grandmother.
