On Our Home Ground
By Paul McCann
Oh won’t you bring me home from all of my travels
For I’ve been away far too long .
Tell me what’s been happening since I’ve been gone ,
I’ve missed all the goings on .
Its as if I’ve never been away
because here in my heart that love’s has never gone .
I love all of the everyday things we used to do
like the way we say hello .
and how you would always say ,
I was just passing by and thought I’d drop in , you know .
Lets share some of the craic
and have a bite to eat in some of the places we know .
Show me that old smile and remind me of the times we once had ,
a long time ago
Bring me home to where we feel safe
In the faith we call our own in the town we’re from
and in the only place where I really belong
for its too long now I’ve been gone .
There’s a love here that keeps on going
and it always will until the end of time .
The friends we had and the things we did ,
are treasured memories , that are yours and mine.
On the fields we played and in the things we said
the game of life was won at full time . .
.

Howyeh!
A great bit of writing with words that so many wanderers and emigrees could empathise with.
I could hear a fiddle and penny whistle in my head as I was reading.

I'm so long away from home I don't know where home is. Though I've a strong feeling that it's where I am now.
Irish music though... there's none better!
Good on you.

Now I could definitely hear a song in the words of this poem. When you return to someone you've shared special memories with from the past, that's when catching up on old times can be the best feeling in the world; laughing about those adventures and where they took you.
Evocative reminising that brings you home.
Lovely poem.
Jenny.
