The Possibility Of Having Lived Other Lives
by Paul McCann
Introduction
Sometimes I would be in a place where I feel a sense of familiarity as if I’ve been there before other times I would see a face in a crowd of someone I have known before which makes me tent to think that I’ve had another life before this one and in that life I’ve been to that place and known that person before in a past life ,
In my dreams I have also been to places that have been familiar to me as if I’ve lived there before .
I’ve always been a believer in God and so I read and prayed about this knowledge and some things came like a light in the darkness .
The Spoken Word
The term Born Again is given to some Christian fellowships which started me thinking I was on the right track , so does that refer to another life where I had Christian beliefs ?
As Christians we are told that we are born into life then we live and die before being resurrected into the eternal life in heaven .
When God speaks to man in some of the Bible references like in Jeremiah 1:5 when God said to Jeremiah.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations “
Does that mean Jeremiah had another life before he was born ?
This raises other questions that intellectual knowledge cannot decipher .
How can God speak to someone in the intimate way about having a relationship with someone before this life . If that is the case them before Jeremiah was conceived in his mother’s womb, God had known him in a profound and personal way.
In Matthew 17:12 Jesus was speaking of John the Baptist and He said ,
“But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hand “
Jesus here speaks of the return of Elijah in the person called John the Baptist which indicates a reference to reincarnation .
There are other references to karma in the bible that refers to generational sin ,
Genesis where God said,
“Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.
If we who are human are created in the likeness of God the on-physical or spiritual beings that suggests we are only inhabiting this life in a temporary sense as a human to experience life is such an wonderful way which leads me to the next question I have about life , how is it that I have always known the names of the all the wild and tame animals , the birds and insects , fish in the sea and even the names of the extinct and endangered species on the planet .
I never enrolled in college to study details about animals yet somehow, I knew lots of information about them . I also have this knowledge about prehistoric creatures who once were on the earth a long time before I was born . Seems to me like there’s something going on I don’t know about . The thought that presents to me is that knowledge can be an inherited thing from another lifetime .
In Luke 16:27 Jesus shares a story to the Pharisees about a rich man who asks for a second chance , asking for a messenger to return from the dead to warn his family of the torment that awaits for doing wrong ,
“Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
“‘No, Father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
The mystery of life will always be that question people ponder and if there is an answer to it all how would we ever explain that to those who don’t believe or who won’t listen . Everyone has a free will and will make their own decisions about whats right and wrong ,
Past and Future Generations
This conversation from the rich man indicates the possibility of making a change for a better future although in this case its already too late . Another point to this story is that the dead can actually be heard in the afterlife .
In this life we all experience good and bad times , the hard knocks and the ridicule .
We are here and gone and move on for the next generation , however sins are also carried through the generations and this also might be an indication of reincarnation of the perpetrator leaving this world with a debt that needs to be resolved . The verse in Exodus 20 : 5 states about a punishment from God handed down through generations’.
“You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
There is a case and a belief that if prayers are offered for forgiveness for the sins of our father and previous family members from past generations there can be a resolution that brings healing and knowledge for the present generation .
Forgiveness can then be achievable even after we are gone . This is another way of finding a recognition of touching lives of those who will proceed in a future to come when we are gone .
The End

you raise lots of interesting
you raise lots of interesting questions. I sometimes think along those lines too, but not very deeply. We are what we are is usually how I see it. Karma? Maybe? God? Possibly. A jealous God. Sounds like nonsense to me.

You have opened a discussion
You have opened a discussion with your thoughtful posting. I too struggle with the idea of God, though I was raised to believe in God I have lost that childhood innocence and find myself questioning the existence of a supreme being, especially in light of the reality in the world we live in today. After losing my husband, the love of my life and I know that sounds trite but it’s true for me, I question it even more. I'll admit to having a deep hope I will see him again...so an afterlife would be nice to find. BUt the Bible as fact however, written by humans not God, has not made me believe in its words. Stories penned by writers back then were just as they are today, how can they be taken as gospel when we know fiction by perception weaves into every tale we tell. So no, I can’t say I believe the Bible is the word of God, I do hope there is a God or some motive to this life, and some kind of continuation of consciousness after but as there is no door to enter through and find out while alive, I will have to just keep hoping there is....![]()
