Today the 29th, 1979. It turned me and educated me about the insane "National Rifle Association" I(the NRA), in America.
Today marks the anniversary of the Cleveland Elementary School shooting in San Diego. 
 A 16-year-old girl, Brenda Anne Spencer, She was the first school shooting in America where she gunned down classmates, Police and teachers with .22 rifle.
It started it all... the first! An inspiration!
What's bizarre and I have never understood was her father, they didn't have guns but he bought Brenda a .22 scoped rifle for her 16th birthday and a pile of ammo, she practiced and became a good shot.
Then she turned her skill on all the above.
Another thing was her father he continues to this day to live in the house opposite the school yard, and must look daily through the window she was shooting through across the road from him,
He has never given an interview to any media!
It was made infamous by the brilliant song Bob Geldhof and Johny Fingers (the pianist) wrote as he heard the story on a flight to the states. He heard a reporter say he was on the phone to her as she shot and asked her why she was. doing this.... her now infamous reply was of course "I dunno, I just don't like Mondays"! Bob and Fingers wrote the song on the flight there and then.
It went to number one all over the world except America where the despicable NRA used their influence to get it banned country wide. 
The Americans clinging to the outdated amendment to bare arms, remember when it was written they had muskets accurate to 50 yards maybe, they couldn't envision it would still be applied to assault rifles that could take your arm off at 500 yards.
Damn the NRA!!!! All the arguments, the worse was maybe Trump saying arm teachers! If you were going to shoot your class mates, you'd start with the teacher! Ridiculous. 
Brenda is still in prison and has had 10 patrol applications turned down. But she was and always will be the first and an influence for a myriad of copycats. I pity and damn America for not taking action. I damn the politicians who won’t take action for fear of not being elected because of the power of the scum NRA!

As an aside one of the best interviews I've seen was with Marilyn Manson, he was asked what would he say to these kids before they went on the rampage? He simply said "nothing".... I'd listen"!

great answer from Manson. The gun nuts really are crazier than normal Americans. I watched a documentary about Brenda Anne Spencer. There were hints of incest. And his father brought a girl into live in the house the same age as his daughter and was screwing her. Weird shit.

Kia ora Celtic.I didn't know about the accusations against her father, I know Brenda in later years claimed her father had sexually abused her! I curse all those politicians who won't make a stand for fear of losing power. I'd give up evrerything if I knew it would save one kids life. 

I don't know if you've read any of my military posts but I learned one thing about guns... They're only made for one thing, killing something or someone. You must ask "can I do that?" Because when you do it's with you forever. The further from that point your life passes the more it's a painful memory... you ask what would that person have become, what happened to his family? Consequences. Usually unforseen by the "gun nuts" in the states. Thanks again for reading mate. Kia Kaha.

Wow, in the photograph she looks sort of, dare I say it, iconic in her outfit with that flowing hair. Damn them! This best way of putting it is f'd up, unfathomable. The part about the father still living opposite the school is perverse. Increasingly I feel as if we're living in a zombie dust society where the most outrageaous things just seem to blur into everyday life.

So many choices made by American governments are incomprehensible to me. That they might start a war over the killing of three soldiers, while allowing the deaths of hundreds of people in their own country every year, including many children, seems bonkers. Everything about what you write of here is so wrong!

Thanks for the read. My pleasure. I think when I apply insane I'm thinking more of policy than an individual. I feel that people don't often get that a gun has one purpose, killing something or someone. Unless you can be fully aware of the consequences of that then you have a gun for the wrong reason. Farmers and licensed hunters have valid reasons, as a Kiwi we have had deer problems so government (not NRA) certified hunters have licences. We had our first mass shooting not so long back and the Prime ministers responce was to immediately buy back every gun that wasn't needed for work as above. Australia did the same years ago after the Port Arther massacre. Never again she said. Having said that assualt rifles were for sale for years and there was no shootings like it. So there has to be a deeper problem as to why these things happen. Not gun ownership alone..... however to make it so easy to buy a powerful weapon does not help. As I said in the rant, your founding fathers who otherwise did great work couldn't envisage the ammendment being applied to allow people to carry, buy, and use the kind of weapons now available. I think that had those wise men who wrote the ammendment could have forseen the consequences they would have inserted caveats. All the best to you, I mean no offence to individuals like yourself but I stand by my words. 

BTW I have fired many weapons of many calibres and seen war and death so i'm not guessing at the "consequences".
