Looking forward to looking back

Looking back at when
he’d looked forward
to the when
he’d be looking back
to that time of great trouble
now past and gone, done.
Looking back to before,
to that time of fearful war,
when they had been looking hopefully
forward to joys galore in store
when there would be no more
trouble, waste and gore,
but sad look back, with sigh –
abhor the anguish, hatred sore
and wonder, ‘Why?’

"..when there would be no
"..when there would be no more
trouble, waste and gore.."
That second verse is skilfully written, Rhiannon. It must have taken quite a bit of thought.
Very nicely done.

You have given wonderful
You have given wonderful rhythm to this. I like very much too, your idea of looking forwards, looking back at the same event, as if tinged with different colours, hope or regret
when there would be no more
trouble, waste and gore,
but sad look back, with sigh –
abhor the anguish, hatred sore
and wonder, ‘Why?’
