The joy of a sandy beach
and warm sea
when you’ve lived far from each,
and though it’s just three
days you have, you dig and you splash and play
and go in a boat to an island one day
and finish with ice-creams,
and though the journey home
went longer than expected,
it meant a stop for something to eat
– MacDonalds finale –
unexpected and rare.
– exciting treat!

The McDonalds finale to any trip was always popular when my children were young too. Is this about your children, or your grandchildren Rhiannon?

Grandchidren (and son and daughter-in-law!). It was such a blessing that only having 3 days, it wss all such a lovely experience for them! Rhiannon

Sounds wonderful Rhiannon - how idylic. Picking up pebbles and shells to throw to the waves! Sun shine just as in my childhood days! Had we only known how rich we were.

The sense of joy and enjoyment shines through in this poem, Rhiannon. Built on fond memories, I'm sure. There's nothing quite like the wonderment of taking children to the seaside.
