It wasn’t long ago. 

Not in the grand scheme of things. 

but within our lifetimes, 

I suppose it is nearly half a 

lifetime ago, which

relatively speaking,

is a long time ago.

I suppose what I am saying is

that if you consider you and I 

within the context of every being

that has ever existed on this 

planet or another, across however long

the length of everything and anything

may truly be, then we are not really

anything. And yet we are as much 

anything as anything could be.

and to me

you are everything.

Which relatively speaking,

is quite a lot.

I think this is delightful, a real love poem. I've been watching Chris Packham's series on evolution, which knocks me out with idea both of how insignificant we are, and the amazing fact that every single one of us is completely unique, however many billions of years and beings there have been. And you have just summed all that up in a poem! Really enjoyed reading this.
