Little England

Little England
Has grown small
We used to be full of life
We used to stand tall
Now we peak from behind a wall
Little England
Used to welcome strangers
With smiles and open arms
Now we judge people of colour
And we’ve lost all our charms
Little England
Is ruled by the cold of heart
Who thrive on money and spite
They boast of selling weapons
To keep the power and the might
Little England
Pines for its colonial days
When they used to rule the waves
Building empires across foreign lands
Burying the natives in shallow graves
Little England
Run by Bankers Royals and Lords
And savage corporate crocodiles
The smell of blood adds to the thrill
Killing kindness with twisted smiles
Little England
Has a curved spine and a whispering cry
And its conscience has lost its way
War is the new profit centre
The dog is on its last day

The 'Little England'
The 'Little England' mentality is certainly something to be fought, and let's hope the election result is an indication that some, most importantly the young, are standing up to it. As to the past - I'm not sure we were ever that welcoming to strangers, and we have a long and inglorious history of judging people by their colour, their sexuality, their class etc - I think you hint at this with the references to Empire. Wholly agree with the general sentiment, though.

We are broken, crippled by
We are broken, crippled by consecutive uncaring, greedy politicians,
I love my Country, but I see NO fix as no one really cares, those in power are here today and gone tomorrow they have no long term objectives.
Sad, but true piece.
