Russia culture is somewhat of a mystery. Russia politics is not. The Communist leadership under Stalin and afterward murdered 100,000,000 people. People is "anyone was against Communism as practiced in Russia." You may wonder how such a thing could happen. It's really simple. Communism was the final form of government. There was nothing coming after Communism. History was no longer needed. Anyone who did not see the historical finality of Communism was wrong. They needed to be slaughtered.
With the death of Communism, the Russian mob took over. Nightclubs, prostitution, drugs etc. As for the former Communists... at first, some of them became advocates of Democracy. Some of you may remember the "Bo knows democracy" and "Pravda (Openness)" campaigns.
Some of the best Russians emigrated to the the United States. They could not stand the double standard in Russia. "All men are equal, but some are more equal than others." This is a line from Animal Farm. It's the typical double-speak of Communist leaders.
Democracy did not happen though because the Communist leadership could not let go of power. In a democracy, power if apportioned to the judiciary, the executive, and the congressional branches. To the Communist leaders, it did not feel good to let go of their sense of absolute power. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely (Kennedy)."
Now some of you may like to distinguish between Marxism and Communism. Some of you may truly be idealists and think that Marxism is some sort of paradise with perfect equality and no difference. Everyone is doing their own thing and loving and adoring each difference because it is so perfect.
I have to tell you, Marxists have a real problem with dealing with difference, separation, demarcation. Some Marxists love to preach about how everyone is the same, same, same in a hysterically, charismatic voice. If people would only realize the beauty of the Marxist dream. Have you ever seen the Godfather III, the helicopter shooting of each person wanting his own share of Michael Carleone's empire. Well, that's what I think of Marxism.
