A book of Dylan Thomas poems and a Pinky and Perky CD.
Thomas is revered here. The librarian looks at me as if I am taking out a copy of the bible and a porn mag. Despising students is a popular pastime hereabouts.
"No illicit taping," she warns me.
In exactly eighteen years time the library will be closed. Eventually it will be converted into flats, but briefly it will achieve unexpected fame as the biggest library in the universe in an episode of Dr Who.
TV is of course an illusion. It is not the biggest library in the universe. I find no books for my course, no humour section and no Graham Greene. Even though Swansea is a city the library is half the size of the one in my home town.
I toy with RS Thomas before settling for Dylan. And a copy of a CD, which I fully intend to tape illicitly.

Dylan Thomas, William Blake
Dylan Thomas, William Blake, Shakespeare, Yeates. I think I'll take those with to the bomb shelter and Newton, Einstein Archimedes and Euclid. That is for the nuclear fall-out shelter. Like in blast from the past.
