The life of a tree

I’m like a tree. At one point, I was a tall, sturdy oak. I had all my branches and I was as healthy as can be. My leaves were full of green. They changed to colors of yellow, gold, red, and orange then had a magical journey on their way down. Every spring they started to grow back and returned as their natural green color. After awhile, my leaves started to lose their lively green color and turned into the horrid color of muddy brown. After that my branches started getting weaker. It had been a long while since I had been watered and properly cared for. Soon my leaves feel off. They haven’t grown back yet. Too soon my branches started to wither. And then they started to break and fall off. I realized then that I was dying. It had been a very long time since I had the proper care and it hadn’t rained in awhile and I wasn’t getting much sunlight. Although I’m still alive, I’m barely holding on. I’ve no water, no sunlight, and no one to help care for me. I just need some water, sunlight, and help. From there I will be able to come anew. My branches will grow back. My leaves will return and come with their vibrant shades of green. I’ll be a better tree. But I grow weaker and weaker by the seconds. Any day now I’ll be a lost tree. Just the whisper of a memory. I don’t want that. But it’s hard to escape the inevitable. So this is my final cry for help. Soon I will be gone. There will no longer be the tree where you had your first kiss or where you engraved your names together. Maybe they’ll come back to visit me after I’ve gone. Maybe they won’t. But if you ever see an effervescent green leaf, it was meant for you. It was no coincidence. However if you ever see one of those effervescent green leaves, you’ve left a mark on me that no one else could leave.
