Hammering into earth below;
long streaks of lightning vein the skies
as baritone thunder bellows
and wind makes frightening moans and cries
wrestling with the limbs of autumn trees.
But, little child, don’t fear the storm
for you are tucked up safe and warm
and, though skies seem to split asunder,
when it’s boomed its loudest, the thunder
grows tired and the wind becomes a breeze.
The storm won’t do you any harm
and, afterwards, the sun will shine;
the sky will be bright blue and calm
and birds will sing; all will be fine.
Then you can say you braved the storm with ease.
