"Any minute now", said Captain Chumley, skipper of the TruthSeekerOne and lifelong member of the Flat World Society as he and his scientific colleagues sailed towards what he was certain must be the edge of the Earth.
"You are sure we're not going to sail off the edge aren't you, Reginald?", asked his wife and co-explorer Barbara, looking nervous.
"Ofcourse", said Chumley, staring heroically ahead, "The Earth is surrounded by rocks on every side so no one can sail off the edge"
"Don't worry", said Geoff Smith, their expert in Flat Earth Geophysics, "God wouldn't let us fall over the edge anyway".
"Thats right", said Barbara, feeling slightly foolish, "Silly old me".
"Any minute now", repeated Captain Chumley as they approached the horizon with baited breath, "And we'll be having tea and biscuits at the edge of the world".
"I can't wait", said their flat earth biologist chum Trevor Greenwell, excitedly, getting his digital camera ready, "For the first time man will see giant sea serpents, perhaps even mermaids".
"Do you really think we'll see Mermaids?", asked Barbara.
"Ancient mariners tell of them", said Trevor.
"And I trust them a hell of a lot more than the corrupt scientists who have been hiding the truth from the world", said Captain Chumley.
The others laughed and nodded in agreement.
"Any minute now", said the Captain staring straight ahead.

It's great, JoHn.

You can make the incredible credible. That's some knack.
Do people really believe the Earth is flat? I get the moniker, fully, but are there really people...? I suppose there might be. They maybe don't go out to the shop much.

It is clever of you to
It is clever of you to combine the two fables, mermaids and flat earth. I can imagine Douglas Adams would chuckle if he could read this story
