The booming thunder like a starting gun,
a torrent pours, a shining marathon;
muscular clouds hurl javelins that flash
whilst whistling winds begin a wrestling match.
Then blue sky wins a gold medallion sun
and, under it,stags rut and stallions run
while, like Muhammad Ali in the ring,
March hares spar to be champion of Spring.
Out of cold winter, Spring sprints into life
and seeds succeed in bearing blooms like flame
then grass and flowers, like green fire, grow rife
and on goes the great never ending game.
