Silence

Quietly she folds her hands
around the tobacco pouch
Quietly she takes the paper from the shelf
She is ageing in silence
The sun’s rays are peeled
away by grey clouds
she has the Mediterranean blues
the storm rips the leaves
from the branches
throwing them all over
she plucks a leaf from her hair
silently scowling
she is quietly old
detached from the world
Misanthrope
she remembers being neither child
nor woman
everything disappeared
everyone ran away
and left her on her own
her silence is old
and ageing furthermore
She stares at the pavement and the
deep puddles left over from
the downpour
Words are strangers
in her silent world
