Man With A Plan

Sometimes out

of bad situations

new conditions

can arise –

 

like a phoenix from

out of ashes lifts,

darkness can be

replaced by wink of light.

 

Dad remember

not long after

elm was cut down,

you came up with a plan;

 

a dream to create a glade shady,

away from daily noisy din,

just outside back gate with sun

beating down you carried on,

 

rich earth there was plenty

with fork – hoe and spade,

establishing desired effect

measured with string,

 

told yourself it's all worth while,

showed no sign of slowing down.

Daydreams you had so many

sitting in your bit of paradise,

 

sweeping back those cobwebs

of indecision, leaving life's

problems far behind, you

were always a man with a plan.

Dad was a builder by trade and loved creating new things, he wouldn't stop till he'd finished, I really don't know where he got all his energy from.

Hi Rhiannon, my dad was someone who could turn his hand to most things and loved creating. I do miss him and mum a lot even now, especially at this time of year, when thoughts turn to loved ones.

October is when I like to remember mum and dad, with thoughts of Samhain on the horizon. Remembering their achievements.

Your dad must have been special too with all his energy. I'm glad I could stir his memory for you.

Very pretty... had a nice flow...seemed to settle into a lilting rhythm around 'a dream to create a glade' line which worked well after the opening thoughts... Lovely images and great control/word economy... much enjoyed :)

I just love it when people take the time to read some of my old pieces, it's also exciting for me to go back and read too. We were so lucky to have the woods at the back of the house, being able to walk out the back garden gate and play as a child was the best feeling. Dad worked so hard and put his all into every challenge, the glade was no exception, which was what I wanted to express.
