Arrogance is a very bad character trait. As you say, pride comes before the fall. In mathematics you get it a lot, people who believe they are in some terrific elite just because no-one understands them, funny because they mostly don't understand each other either. It is much better to be humble.

Should mention Rhiannon I find the second verse a bit confusing. And they appear to be the same but self-respect is something completely different from pride.

I think self-respect is acknowledging that God has made us able to do certain things and have gifts, and we are pleased when we do something well, but know it is with his help, so that keeps us humble.

The second little verse is, like the picture, indicating someone not listening to warnings and advice, so sure he know what is best and so falling down as he hasn't bothered to look carefully, think carefully, listen to others' advice and warnings.
