Everything shower

She's in there now.
Wide wings lather the window;
feather flurries drift the room,
cling the walls, clog the drain.
Flat feet slap a slurry up
of down and swirling pondweed,
pungent mud, pinched minnows.
Water splays, laces tiles
with frantic life, flicked and flung
from glad beak, lashing neck, tail.
It's a self-plucking, a gentle
immolation, Leda
and the swan transmuted.
She'll be out soon.

Leda
A swan with its dinner or a child at bathtime or both, for a nice bit of modern mythology.

Congratulations, this is our Pick of the Day Mon 21st Sep 2026
This is - as always - off-kilter, intriguing poetry with layers that we may discern or not. It's our pick of the day today.
Do please share fellow ABCTalers.

Fantastic poem, words
Fantastic poem, words translating into textures and sounds from quite a mundane subject matter. Poetry very well done.

I lapped this up. Favourite
I lapped this up. Favourite lines in this: wide wings lather, feather flurries drift, flat feet slap, flicked and flung. Yes please! My kind of poem that I could feel, both calm and chaotic, free and cosy, and found myself wanting the swan to stay in and enjoy the shower a little longer, long as she likes!

A whimsical, creative poem
A whimsical, creative poem about an ordinary routine (a shower), triggering meandering thoughts and ingeniously juxtaposing them. An enjoyable read.
