And every syllable is torn
from the sole of your shoe,
each line unplanned,
scanned with a bar code reader,
every single clumsy rhyme
crow-barred in, every time.
Claptrap posing as the greatest art,
part religious drivel,
snivelled over, heart-broken
English spilled on the page
like tea and half-digested crumbs
of knowledge from your bygone age.

Yep, definitely, sometimes
Yep, definitely, sometimes our works of art and pearls of wisdom feel like the greatest waste of time in the world, and then we look again and, as you say, they're actually not that bad. The line about our bygone age made me smile. Really identified with this one, Ewan!

Crumbs!
Poetry's often a lot better when looked at again a bit later. I read Paradise Lost 350 years after it was written, and it was great.
And a few words put down to unburden yourself usually helps.
And writing something's always better than writing nothing, such as me just now.
