Crowd shouting
Must be exciting
Men running - 
oh look he's got the ball!
A white one
That's ours I think.
Look they've all piled on him.
Hang on -
how'd that ball get over there?
crowd singing now. 
Is that good?
what's the score?
3-3 that means they're even 
Oh! That looked painful 
He was a big bloke 
Look at those thighs! 
They're all big blokes though 
So maybe it was ok.
Scrum! - I heard that before
Is that one? 
A lot of blokes all piled together
Yellows got the ball now 
Off they go - uh oh
They score!
How did it go from 3 to 8?
Surely 4?
I'm not sure I get this
maybe if I wait...
Whites look peed off
Oh ten now! On one kick
Whites don't look pleased.
Oh...
husband's turned it over now.
I suppose I'll never know.

Entertaining! Despite being Welsh I've not got into rugby watching, though I think I tried and got the scoring somewhat as a child by trying to listen to my father's explanations. Rhiannon

Yes - unusual to be Welsh but not a Rugby fan. I must admit I enjoyed watching what I did but didn't always understand what was going on other than having the ball was a good thing for your team and getting it over the line was even better. As with most team sports - the more times you get the ball over the goal line the better but other than that the scoring and rules alluded me a bit. Was my first game though.

Hello AccidentalExisting and Rhiannon. You know, out of all my Welsh friends I only have one who's a rugby nut like me and as such we are kind to each other. I enjoyed your poem and just want to say to just watch and enjoy it, the rules will seep into you. But just watch -  It's like poetry, all that structure and then these wonderful bursts of freedom. And it's the English game! We'll be back! (as in next year...)

Glad you weren't offended by my lack of rugby knowledge. I would have liked to have watched the whole match really. It looked exciting.

PS - of course not offended! But I forgot to tell you something really crucial. Nobody understands all the rules. Even the refs!! It's the beautiful game, that's all that matters.

My wife says: you don't watch rugby, do you? You are Italian! Well I do watch it even though I don't know the rules but I can understand the scoring. I am a sport-aholic and watch everything from football to tennis to athletics and anything else that goes. What I can't fathom out is why the whole nation mourns when the whites lose.
I enjoyed your very lucid commentary.

I like watching sports sometimes but mainly live. There is nothing like being there and soaking up the atmosphere - you don't need to understand everything then.
