She found the perfect hiding place.
Not behind the straggle of different coloured bins pushed up against fences, some painted, some not.
Nor behind some of the tree trunks in a little burst of grass before the parked cars. She’d the pick of the bunch and loved to jump out and surprise you with her laughter.
When you close your eyes, you expect to see her again.
Peek-a-boo. Where are you?

Did I read this wrong ? I thought she'd died, and that's where 'the perfect hiding place' was.

I took it as someone gone -
I took it as someone gone - not necessarily dead, maybe a child grown up. That brings its own losses. Either way, it's a vivid piece that gives lots of cause for thought.

Pick of the Day
Whatever your interpretation, this is beautifully written and definitely one to think about. It's our Pick of the Day.

Like Airy, I thought this was
Like Airy, I thought this was about a child growing up. It seems to happen so fast to those of us watching. I was told to treasure every minute, and people who said that were completely right :0) It is much better to think of a child hiding inside their teenage/adult self, than gone. Brilliant IP response!

Recycling her laughter
Did she hide somewhere else on bin day? Do they even have bins in heaven?
