Manatee

I so much want to know how soft your skin.
Run fingers over sparce hairs wondering how
you perceive my presence.
If I am friend or I am foe.
You will turn your elephantine face to mine
and I wonder if you sense how I’m lost
to your gentle greyness, captivated
by the perfection of your curves
carved and shaped by evolution’s ribbons.
Your intelligent curiosity inherited
from land based cousins will tell you I’m no threat.
Just a pudding skinned fool prepared to defy gravity
in your crystal world or cruise the seagrass at your side.
Bathing in the same calming hypnotic gaze
you share with other more earthly cows.

Lovely poem Ed.
Lovely poem Ed.
I saw a family of manatees when we went down the everglades in Florida, we were so lucky because they're very shy creatures.
Thank you for sharing this tribute to a fine creature.
Jenny.
