I've certainly been there, frightened of rocking the boat, hiding behind the excuse of not wanting to hurt the other person.

And sometimes the other person in the relationship is doing exactly the same thing. It's so funny how we don't talk anymore. It's so sad how we daren't listen. So many things missed because of a you never said.

Hello Turlough nice to see you back. 

I think it's a tricky one.  Is honesty always the best policy ?  Is it just a small bump in a  long term relationship which will sort itself out if not poked about ?  Is a fundamental problem which needs addressing ?  

I'm conscious that things said can't be unsaid. But the IP did make me think about what we hide and why.

You're right Kat, it's a very tricky one. I think the policy depends upon the personality of the person we're dealing with. And it's not always at a stage in a long term relationship that such things happen. Something unsaid could even prevent the start of a relationship. It's all tricky.

It also depends on that person's relationship with themselves - some people can take constructive criticism and some can't.  So many variables !

I seem to be stuck permanently in analysis mode, I often wish I wasn't.  Can come in handy (I'm a good proofreader and it was useful in my IT career) but a bit of a mixed blessing.

And I wanted to be a train driver too, but girls just didn't do that back in my day.  Ditto when I wanted a Meccano set.  However I'm pleased to say I have a female friend who used to be a train driver for GWR, so there are a few of then about now.
