Silent Partners

When silence is louder than the commotion of life.
Like all new ventures it set off well
both partners keen to make the grade
by driving the spade deep into the earth
bringing provision and worth to their citadel
Their lives were filled with normality
their time consumed with the mundane
and whatever eases the pain on that long
and rocky journey to the lowlands of reality
And then one day, when least expected
a partner returned to find, newly elected,
someone else by the door; who or why unsure,
but the silence was guilt laden, malignant and raw
Everything changed on that dreadful day, when a vow
freely given was callously forsaken, when tongues
were bitten as articles of association, newly written,
meant silence on the subject was taken as read
But incarcerated thoughts just yearn to escape
scratching the walls in search of a landscape
where waterfalls of dialogue and learning may flow
forming meadows where hope and forgiveness can grow
Silence between partners charters anguish and pain
an insane forfeit, an unnecessary strain when,
so easily eased, it can remain where it really belongs
that joyous consummation of two well sung songs

Lives filled with normality.
Lives filled with normality. But then the dispute. Sounds like something we know well. The everyday trying to take something away. Call it capitalism. Makes you think.

What an interesting poem. I liked the subtle rhyme and the imagery of the couple founding their relationship, only for it be betrayed; well earned Cherries IMHO.
