The Magic Post Office
By Paul McCann
The sign outside the post office said , we sell everything so I went in to have a look . After walking through the door, I saw all those other shops inside and inside those shops there were shops within shops . I mean , it was another world .
The post office was just a portal in some place in time where you could have been anywhere at any time . I saw people buying groceries , old folk collecting their pensions . The fashions were vintage and modern .
One common factor was the friendly service in every shop I went . The most astonishing thing for me was that and it deserves to be mentioned everyone there
called me by my name when I went in to their shop .
They all welcomed me into their shop . It felt strange but good to see people I never knew who seemed to know me . There were young and old
people who seemed to care for me .
An entire community of people were there going about their business like a normal everyday existence .
I felt as if I was in a simulation like an observer watching life from beyond the one, I knew and lived in .
I went into a confectionary shop that had big glass jars on shelves filled with chocolate, liquorice and candy . When I walked out the door of that shop there was a bus depot with a courtesy bus that took me to other confectionary shops where you could buy coloured lollipops and ice cream in a glass and you could even stay and eat until you were full or you wanted to leave .
Outside that shop was a market place filled with stalls where stall holders had all kinds of toys on display .
Pogo sticks and toy tram sets with flying saucers on mobile stands that that spun around and round .
There were stalls with free lucky dips and balloons on strings and windmills on sticks . Some toys were futuristic ; some were old but the collection on display was unbelievable .
Then outside the market was the main Toy Shop called Toytown.
I went inside and found children and adults playing innocently on gaskets and devices , there were virtual reality escape rooms where anything could happen .
Everywhere you went there was machines that could make dreams seem real . Queues of people waiting in line for the bus From Toytown to the Food Stop shops and that’s where I met John and his wife who mentioned that they were closing soon . Then they gave me a key to the exit door of their Post Office and said I could come back for a visit anytime I wanted .
I put the key into the lock on the exit door they showed me and gave me a big bag of liquorice all sorts to share with everyone . When I left the post office there was a man writing a sign on the window that read .
“Closed for renovations “
I went home and shared my liquorice all sorts with my family and looked forward to my next visit in The Magic Post Office .
The End
