This Is My House
by Paul McCann
This is my house with all that I own,
The bits and pieces that make a home .
My daughters ashes inside a box ,
The TV set , a couple of clocks
My sisters art works in special spots .
Antiques I got from second hand shops .
Sheets and towels, curtains , mats and rugs
Delph of the shelf , ornaments and mugs .
Some pots and pans , the table and chairs,
Dinner plates , tumblers and kitchen wares,
The knives and the forks and all the spoons .
The furniture in all of the rooms .
The washing machine’s and clothes driers ,
The kettle , toaster and deep fryer’s
The fridge standing there , six foot tall
The notice boards hanging on the wall .
Photos in frames, lamps and the bookcase.
Mirrors where we can all see our face . .
The cars , guitars and Wi-Fi we share.,
The three karaoke machines there.
The lawn mowers and edge trimmers too
That outside portable barbeque ,
All of us living here at my place .
We all need our own personal space .

We do indeed need that
We do indeed need that personal space. Your poem reminds me of the day I moved out of the house I'd lived in for twenty-three years. When all those things had gone, and I was standing in an empty space, I felt as if I'd lost my entire life. Some of those things moved with me, but it was quite a while before they looked 'right' in their new places. I remember the day I looked round and thought, yes, they fit. This is home.
Thanks for posting this. Very much appreciated.

You've managed to fit so much
You've managed to fit so much into this poem that feels so homely with great rhythm and rhyme.
Jenny.
