The Postman Of Days Gone Past
By Paul McCann
Before mobile phones and facebook , there were letters that people wrote
With greetings cards that were posted with maybe a ten pound note
All the mail was sorted out at the mail centre down the town
Then given to the postman who would begin to do his round
On cold winter mornings he would walk through all the little streets
With a sack filled up with Christmas cards to every one he greets
The postman's face was weather beaten but he wore a warm smile
As he went making deliveries walking mile after mile
Sometime people would ask him hf he needed a helping hand ,
but a postman’s work is done alone delivering by hand.
His sack was overfull and so he carried a heavy load
aound the little streets and lanes ways and down every road .
The postman’s job was to deliver letters everyday
Through wind and rain and sleet and snow he would have to make his way
He carried birthday cards and Christmas cards with some money there
From family overseas to letter box slots everywhere .
It was more than a job for him it was a mission to do ;
all the hope and joy inside his sack the postman really knew,
All the good news greetings , love letters and cash for those in need
Long lost friends with photographs and the messages there to read..
that was back in another time when the people had time to write,
since the internet arrived the postman’s almost out of sight .
.,

Hi Paul,
Hi Paul,
not for me, I still send letters and cards, though I don't receive that many. I only wish more people would take the trouble to write instead of using technology. You can't beat the postman, he does such an incredible job.
Jenny.
