The Tree They Couldn’t Cut Down
By Paul McCann
There was story I heard about a tree
that stood alone on a hill ,
before the little village streets were built
to house the workers of a mill..
So just as the building began ,
there was this tree in the way of the plan ,
and the developer said ,
cut it down , but the man didn’t understand .
it was a fairy tree
so no one would dare to cut it down where it stood .
Everyone knew if you cut a fairy tree down
you would come to no good .
They asked builders, labourers ,
and farmers if anyone would cut it down ,
but there was nobody anywhere
who would take the tree out of the ground .
So they rerouted all the streets around the tree
in order to appease ,
the powers that were there
around that ancient dwelling place of the fairies ..

I'm so glad the fairy tree
I'm so glad the fairy tree never got cut down, and I enjoyed your little story within the poem.
