Around Longtown, upper Monnow Valley

Black mountain ridge sweeps up above us
on the west of the beautiful Monnow valley:
majestic, gentle.
Walk a little way up and turn along for
circular walk and gaze across the lush
valley to the softer, lower tree-clad green
of the eastern edge of the valley.
Hangliders drift along lazily above the higher ridge.
Clear blue sky, dazzling hawthorn trees full of blossom (one pink),
busy black and white lambs and munching, patient ewes,
and in the valley the gentle Monnow river flows.

I can visualise the valley, the hawthorn trees and the lambs. This sounds like a stunning walk, Rhiannon. The weather is beautiful at the moment. Gorgeous pics as well. Paul :)

Hi Rhiannon

A lovely poem. You describe this area so beautifully. We spent a week in a farmhouse in Longtown May last year with views of the Black Mountains and the local church. We visited the quaint old pub at Clodock just down the road on a few occasions. Thank you for a lovely reminder of a very peaceful holiday in stunning countryside.

Thank you, Lindy. We've walked around there so much in the past, but I've had health issues confining, not mobility but internal discomforts, so to do this was so special, and the weaather so good! Rhiannon

I wish I could zoom in to those pictures you’ve posted; what beautiful lands they depict. I would love to soar above them and with your words the images flow from one point of interest to the next, taking us on this journey of impressive mountains, glistening valley, blossoming hawthorn trees and hangliders drifting lazily above the ridge. When you write of your experience with nature it is a breathtaking recall, and you have captured your recall vividly here.smiley
