“When our cat’s away,
where does he go?
what does he do?
Does he fight or play,
how far does he stray?

“How does he track
his way back
to here?
Does he tell by the smell 
of each garden and road?
Does he find many mice
to eat 
– are they nice?

“He comes home every day
and likes to be fed,
and he’ll stay
awhile
to sleep on my bed.
Does he dream of his
hunts and the places he goes?
    – who knows?!”

Thank you. I have made collections for the younger grandkids sometimes. I sometimes think child-attitudes are appreciated by adults as much as children! Rhiannon

Hi Rhiannon.

I've had many cats, and often wondered where they go and if they had adventures, how far did they travel. I remember watching: The Incredible Journey about two dogs and a cat. Such a brilliant film and your poem reminded me of this.

Like you say, a poem for the young of heart, at all ages.

Loved this read.

Thank you,  Jenny. I was also remembering one of my sons who thought shopkeepers were permanently where he saw them in the shops, and also puzzled about what was underneath the road – I found a lovely illustrated book for him about that at the time. Even a camera or traciking device on a cat's collar wouldn't give much info! Rhiannon
