Bush bursting with gooseberries …
anticipation of juiciness:
but last year suddenly all gone!
opportunist avian thieves
must have enjoyed their speedy feast.
This year carefully tented with netting,
plenty else around for the birds!

Stew, freeze, fill tasty packets for winter puddings!

Hi Rhiannon,

capturing memories in a poem is significant. Although I have bad memories, when as a tot mum called the Police thinking I'd escaped from the garden, when really I was in the gooseberry bush eating too many and making myself sick, sadly I hate the fruit now, but on the other hand your poem was and sounded very tasty.

Enjoyable read.

smiley Poor Mum, poor Jenny! Gooseberries are a thing you love or dislike, but your story shows how sometimes dislikes are triggered by associated memories. I don't think I would like raw gooseberries!

I remember one Christmas a son coming to me a bit distraught that he didn't seem to like chocolate any more. I pointed out that it was the first time he'd had a lot and been left to his own discretion as to how much to eat at a time, and he'd overdone it! Happily his pleasure in chocolate returned after a pause, and he learnt to be less greedy! Rhiannon

Thank you! I've just picked I think its the fourth collander, each making about 30 oz of stewed gooseberries, and there are plenty still there. Had some yesterday, very sharp, but delicious! Rhiannon
