Pushed out

like a lily,

still so buoyant

on dappled

surface,

burning

 

to ash,

to embers.

 

Your hand slips

out of mine;

I can’t let go.

You drift

away,

glowing,

not looking back.

 

I traipse home

lifelessly

along Varanasi’s

smoky streets.

You’re on your way:

 

to the sea,

to the stars.

This is a gorgeous poem Socialeaf. It brings back memories of similar experiences with my own kids and my own parents.

If I were to write my version it would include the words tears, clinging and worry. Yours is much nicer.
