When I visit my friend
in the nursing home
with no hat

The staff have noticed
if I have not got it on
they will say
where is it
makes you look young

I reply it is only nylon fur
when I wear it out
that hat causes a stir

I swopped it with my daughter's
that was just the same
mine was dark brown
and I have her white one
with black spots on

Some say 101 dalmations
like the film

It has a deep brim
that comes up into a dome

But when I wear it out
people stare as I go by

If ever I eat out
I put the hat on a chair
my hair is blasted
all over my head

People look
and think is that a cat
curled up there
as I do often
give it a stroke

Ray was with me
when we left the pub
but he popped into shop
for a carton of milk

I carried on with a smile
to catch the shops
all closed by half five

Several people rushing
and bustling along
this guy shouts out
quite aggressively
----that hat
why behave like that

I never heard a word he said
with the nylon fur hat on my head
pressing on the hearing aid
sometimes whistles it makes

The traffic whizzing by
I kept looking back
felt quite squiffy
till Ray was by my side

Good job there was no wind
I might have taken off
up high into the trees
like a cheshire cat
spying on all

I think this is wonderful. Light and airy like the wind that there wasn't (except in the imagination). Vivid images and funny as well with the running gag of all the hat comments. Rob

Wow! Julie, that sounds like some hat. I love the last stanza: Good job there was no wind I might of taken off up high into the trees like a cheshire cat spying on all very inspiring. Thanks for the read. Jenny.

new rjnewlyn Hi! Thanks great comment. I was doodling with words.Of an experience happened last week, my brain needs oiling. All true, wasn't the cheshire cat Alice In Wonderland with a big smile? Or the Caterpillar sat on the branch with a pipe rings blowing out words,"How are you". Maybe you can think of a line or better words. Happy New Year. julie xx

As said to rjnewlyn, it was all true.Was it Alice In Wonderland, The cheshire cat with a big smile? sat up in the branches,or Caterpillar smoking long pipe, saying "How are you" fairytales umm! Love reading all.Hat is going back in the draw soon. Point is some don't recognise me when I wear it.Or may think I look bit uppity show of,I am not.That happens with my P-P-P "Pick Up a Penguin coat" (IP) Cherry wow. Daughter gave me,and poem I tried of it on here,then I tell of AbcTales etc. Have a good week-end.Love your chocolate poem,got biggest box ever shared,his mum don't see.I only eat soft centres,teeth failing,like me,hah!hah! This is really good, Julie. I like the way you compare the hat to a fluffy cat, even stroking it. It is an amusing piece which made me smile. Well done. Luigi x

new magicdarer Hi! You say what you like! I'm impressed and your comment. Had to remember poem bits,Ah! it was white hat nylon fur black speckles on. If went to "Spud You Like" take off and put it, on a chair! maybe table next to me, Q be asked "thought it was a cat". First thinking of poem another I tried, can't think title,on my belated mum's Fur coat! Blow me saw replica in shop charity one,had go see and feel,it was weird shock! Like heavy Leopard spot coat 2nd hand so heavy! Well that awful hearing aid,I was in church choir don't find time go now,like late sleep! did for years. Can understand them,but it whistling one day,to my amazement one came over,had a right go,not in choir themselves. Annoying to me,turn up louder squeals like me,too low can't hear age! I'll never go for digit one,tests done couldn't hear at all,luckily had old type battery slots in,with me,Ray came for once,hospital,they say take months not likely,get used too, but they are not making anymore! oldies got outside couldn't hear damn thing! changed in park quickly happy. Ray hasn't got h/aid call,if gone bed,taken it out h/aid. But going deafish himself won't do anything,so shout! each other ow! You take care. Many thanks have to slow down,or scribble first get down what I mean. Just in calling dinner 2o minutes,or tv on difficult. julie x ps just found it poe,"Leopard Coat" my belated mum's see got 1000 reads omg!
