Softly, she speaks
as I chop onions,
and make chilli con carne
for supper, and the din
in my head subsides...
she makes me feel
kind of sentimental...
ache for things
I’ve not thought about
in a long time...
things I’ve put
to the back of my mind
dead-end affairs...my lack
of drive – unrealised
ambitions...
Sad songs she sings...
sad, like she was.
A sip or two of wine,
and a chanteuse –
the ‘little sparrow’,
adrift, somewhere
in the after-life
makes me wonder
what it’s all for;
except for the fact
she is this poem,
and touched the soul
of just an ordinary
housewife.

Sandlady.
Another little gem.
"...‘little sparrow’,..."
singing "...Non, je ne regrette rien..."
"...as I chop onions,.."
don't blame the onions that make you weep

Hello Tina,
I like the fact that you can make any situation poetic, it doesn't have to be all wine and roses,
sometimes it's okay to feel melancholy.
You have once again spoken to me with your words.
Thankyou, hope you're having a good week.
Jenny.

Another exquisite pearl of a poem to add to the string. I love the way this piece floats away, careens off after the opening stanza like an unfettered stream of consciousness then comes drifting back at the end.
