WHAT GOES AROUND... (IP)
I am standing here so quietly,
Just waiting for the rain.
I’ve tried to climb out up the wall
But I just slip back again.
There’s not much now that I can do
Just hope, and pray, and think –
The worse thing is, it’s my own fault.
I’d had too much to drink,
Walked home alone across the fields
So I could get there quick –
Hoping to miss the coming storm –
I was feeling very sick
But in my haste I clean forgot
About the open well.
It’s filled in, but the lid’s been nicked -
I tripped, and in I fell.
It’s not much more than twelve foot deep
I would have been okay
If it hadn’t rained so hard this year
Most every blooming day.
The water’s right up to my neck
It’s like taking a cold bath
If it weren’t so flippin serious
I’d really have to laugh.
I’m cold and wet, my necks gone stiff
But what gives me most pain:
It was ME what pinched the lid.
Now I’m waiting for the rain.
