White PPE gloves

displayed in the gutter:

an albino peacock’s feathers

among the mulched leaves and litter.

 

And the rain washes nothing away

but spilled drink

from the discarded bottles and cans

we tiptoe through, as though they were tulips.

 

Occasional dropped costume jewellery

in child’s sizes tells of wailing

and ‘I-told-you-sos’

in the stairwells of low-rise flats.

 

The milky sun burns a hole

through the grey overblanket

that used to be blue

and not half-so heavy.

 

We will it to win;

to vanquish the clouds and the rain

and paint the world’s ceiling

a glossy and hope-filled turquoise.

I loved it. Just the sort of stuff I notice walking along, a million things soon forgotten. You captured a moment of some of them. Always will it to win!
