Twists and Turns

It was a turn-up for the books. 

Contrary to what worms are expected to do when trodden on, Will had decided that he would not retaliate.

"You can turn if you want to, this worm is not for turning!", he declared.

His cousin Hugh, who was a bookworm, remembered having read that a similar phrase had been used in the past and that it had proved to be a turning point in somebody's life.

He turned to Will and, brusquely, told him to reconsider.

"You are spineless and have no backbone.  Your parents would turn in their graves if they knew what you are thinking of doing or rather not doing.
Think of the reason why you are a flatworm. Hundred of people have walked over you without turning a hair."

"Sorry", Will replied, "I have made my choice and there's no turning back."

Hugh looked at his obstinate cousin, realised he could not turn the tables and turned away in disgust

I think you've done a similar 'turn' on words before Luigi. As Paul says, adroitly done, and a nice change.

It is quite possible, Rhiannon. Having a repetitious style is fairly common in our writing community and reflects our personal interests. Some people will write at length about nature, others about situations or unrequited love. As I like reading humorous authors like P.G. Woodhouse I tend to write, perhaps too often, with tongue-in-cheek in the hope that readers find my efforts amusing which by and large they do.

Hi Rhiannon, I understood that you weren't being critical. I was just pointing out that your comment made me realise that perhaps I overuse that kind of style but I also noticed the particular tendency we all have to write about our preferred topics.
