Roots

Swaying gently in the breeze,
leaves spread out to feed the trees
so much energy they capture,
sunshine's power to manufacture
sugar for the life and growth.
Roots spread too, but underneath
gripping, sucking rain from earth –
and help stabilize the ground
as the winds and rain-storms pound.
Roots linked (symbiotically?)
with the fungal Wood-Wide Web* beneficially
which is freeing nutrients by decay
replenishing earth's riches day by day,
and helps the roots with water capture
minerals to manufacture
proteins for the growing structure
of new cells.

Lovely biology lesson,
Lovely biology lesson, Rhiannon :0) I liked particularly how your first part seems to flow together, like leaves moving easily, and you have the tense, stiff sound of "gripping" and "sucking" in the second part, the hardness of ""pound" and "ground"
That tree trunk looks so like a face :0)

A poem written with a symbiotic touch. The IP was any variation on the theme of roots so yours is an exemplary adaptation.
An ideal read to offset the scorching temperatures we are currently experiencing.
Adriotly done, Rhiannon.

With my love of trees, you
With my love of trees, you have captured all the elements that go to make up a wood or forest, giving an insight into the life of trees and their amazing capabilities.
Very much enjoyed reading Rhiannon.
