The Rain Came
By Paul McCann .
I cannot swim and I fear the waters rising up on me .
The overflow has turned the city into a rolling sea .
Western Sydney’s washed away and people have no where to go .
Southern Highlands is waters deep in a steady undertow .
I cannot swim I fear the water, but no one hears my screams ?
I'm walking in puddles everywhere water logged in my dreams .
I will have to stay at home a while there's no place else to go .
Are the snakes in the lakes wriggling ,
I really do not know .
I cannot swim, I fear the water may rise above my head
and very soon I may be sleeping beneath a riverbed .
If only I had a boat the water wouldn't bother me,
because then I could float on the water creeping up on me .
I cannot swim but fear no more , because now I’m safe and dry .
I can see a break in the clouds
and the sun peeping through
the dark clouds in the sky .
.

The rising waters and fear
The rising waters and fear you set to poetic rhythm felt real. You set up the natural disaster's tempo in a beat that quickened with human pulse and heart. I too cannot swim and fear the rising of waters when hurricanes are predicted here, so I understood the fright crossing over into dreams. The ending of the poem was well toned and offered a breath of relief when the waters receded. It was very well written, thanks for sharing.![]()
