Roots

Swaying gently in the breeze,
leaves spread out to feed the trees
so much energy they capture,
sunshine's power to manufacture
sugar for the life and growth.
Roots spread too, but underneath
gripping, sucking rain from earth –
and help stabilize the ground
as the winds and rain-storms pound.
Roots linked (symbiotically?)
with the fungal Wood-Wide Web* beneficially
which is freeing nutrients by decay
replenishing earth's riches day by day,
and helps the roots with water capture
minerals to manufacture
proteins for the growing structure
of new cells.
[IP; Roots, I've returned to plants not genealogical or memores of youth]
