Emptied Lands …

Displaced, pushed out
from hunger, cruelty
the many flee;
and some enticed and fleeced
in perilous schemes by
those with no regard for
safety if they gain.
And those receiving, fear that in the flow
may come a remnant set to sow
insidiously the hatred, callousness,
the malice and injustice
from which they say they suffered so.
And who is paying for that devastation?
Who feeds that malnutrition,
and children taught, forced into execution?

Couldn't agree more with all
Couldn't agree more with all that has been said, Rhiannon.
Your words encapsulate this terrible situation so very well.

Hi Rhiannon. Nice to see
Hi Rhiannon. Nice to see another poem about the refugees and migrants. You encapsulate a lot of the problems faced not just by them but by the governments that need to help in times of crisis!

Great way to increase awareness...
Your poem urges awarness of this painful situtation. To simply say that the innocence lost on the shores and seas is "sad," seems a frivilous way to put it. Thanks for a well-written poem.

It was quite a surprise on my return from the Nottingham reading night to find this poem of yours about the painful and distressing situation that has prompted individuals and nations to examine their conscience.
Congratulations on the golden cherries.

There has been an outpouring of prose and poetry about these awful circumstances especially in the last week. This is as good as I've read, Rhiannon. A well-deserved pick of the day.

Emptied Lands
I was not surprised by this excellent piece and I am glad to say it made me think. Written without predjdice it does not judge, yet I felt the need to examine myself and realised that I too have a part I must play in this sadness. Thank you.
