A sleepy mid-July mid-afternoon

Azure sky
green leaves lie
against the blue,
and puffs of white float by.
All is quiet except a wood-pigeon’s constant
thrusting note.
A car sweeps past,
a butterfly, white, dances
across the hedge-wall,
goose-grass is shooting up
to engulf part of it.
Tree leaves move gently in a slight breeze,
the wood pigeon has gone and the
faint further birdsong can now be heard.
Move on and up a ridge and beautiful solos of skylarks sound down.

Thanks very much. I find the wood pigeons round here a bit insistent and intrusive, but I think I've got used to it. Where my mother lived there were collared doves, and I think I found their cooing a bit more soothing?! Rhiannon

As Jenny says, thankyou for creating this feeling of space and movement, light and beautiful sound. Particularly liked:

also, the last line, the length, and the skylarks at the end, it's magic
