Harvest Mouse
By skinner_jennifer
- 1679 reads
Within fields of wheat,
corn and barley; there's
hushed efficiency, seeds
shall be gathered and
consumed;
sometimes emerging in
daytime's summer heat,
scattering among husks
rising; glint of golden
welcome,
as quivering whiskers
together with bolder
brighter eyes, these
seekers silently
advance; nothing
fazes them:
little creatures prepared
for action, especially
when void of space
darkens...not that
mousy declares any
opinions,
too busy devouring
kernels; getting to
heart of the matter,
supplying hunger.
Even crescent moon
has no place as this
tiny character climbs
her umpteenth stalk,
so slight she can
balance on heads of
wheat.
Her babies innocently
wait, as I focus my
attention on respect
for all preservation;
especially the lively
Harvest Mouse.
